Start Jogging

I can't remember when I first started running/jogging. I just always remember doing it, but a friend of mine ask me to help him get started. I tried to think how I could help him, but it made me realize that jogging is not something someone can just one day start doing.
The best way to start jogging is to gradually build up your fitness over time through power walking. Once you feel your fitness has improved you can then start to introduce short sections of jogging. Make sure you always adequately warm up, before you start to jog, and a cool down during your last 10-15 mins of exercise.
Most importantly listen to your body - if you do not feel like exercising because you are very tired, DON'T. The next time you go out, don't try to make up for your missed session by doing an extra long or fast session, take your time and gradually build up your sessions, improvement will come with the enjoyment!

Furniture

I do not know if any of you are shopping for furniture, but I have found a good website for buying furniture online. It is called Home and Living.com. They have a very large selection of Coaster Furniture. If you are not familiar with Coaster Furniture, then you should really check out the site. Coaster Company makes furniture for every room of your home, and it is very good quality furniture at a reasonable price. The website is very well laid out and you can shop by brand or by what room of your home you are shopping for. If you are shopping for furniture or just dreaming about getting some, then you should really look into Coaster Furniture at Home and Living.com.

Perfect stoole softener

We all know that it's not healthy to go days, even a couple of days, without having a BM. Bad subject, I know, but a fact of life. Well, I found the perfect solution to constipation. Allow me to tell my story and explain.

Just this morning, I was waiting patiently at a red light. A big, big dumptruck--may have look to me a lot bigger than it truly was--ran the red light. A car, who was attempting to cross, slammed on brakes in the middle of the intersection to try to avoid being T-boned by this insane driver. The truck swerved to miss the car and came within milimeters of takin the front completely off my Honda Civic. It was just a couple of seconds later that I realized that I had no extra underwear in my car. Who needs exlaxs?

Pets

Sometimes I look at my dog with jealousy; I mean, how great would it be to eat when you wanted to, sleep when you wanted to, run and walk when you wanted to. Ares has it made in the shade. He is a great dog though. Usually when I go for a run, he makes it about half way, but if I just go for a walk, he's with me for the long haul. He's a Boxer.

I do make sure that I take good care of him though. I guess the most aggrevating things dogs deal with are fleas. The site, www.fleascontrol.com, is a great site if you have questions about your pets. It gives informantion about anything from how to deal with fleas to feline osteosarcoma. It list different sites about different pets areas. It's a great site for information about pets. I recommend that pet owners should visit. www.fleascontrol.com.

Almost

The weekend is almost here, and I don't think I'll have to work. I've planned a trip to the beach in S.C.; so hopefully I won't have to cancel. Yesterday I got off work early enough to get a short workout in. I benched and done a little arms. I'm not even sure you could call it a workout, but it was better than nothing.

Orlando!!

How cool would it be to wake up in the morning, put on you jogging pants/shorts and go for a run on the beach in Orlando, Florida. Well, coming up soon it the annual Microsoft MGX meeting in Orlando, and all techies need to attend. Of course you'll need an affordable place to stay; International Plaza Resort and Spa is offering a Microsoft MGX Special Rate of $119 a night. This is a great Resort located on International Drive, and there's plenty to do. It offers free wireless access throughout the property, complimentary transportation to all major theme parks, and it's very close to many other attractions. It's also within walking distance of the convention center. Everyone should go. You can learn alot and have a great time.

Pregnant

One of my best friends is pregnant. Well, he isn't, but his wife is. We've been good friends for a long time, and I pity that baby. Just kidding. He'll make a fine father. I know you guys don't know him or care, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Love for music...

You may recall a couple of weeks ago me mentioning how much I loved music and that I was actually a drummer. I mentioned in my previous post about people who are obsessed with physical fitness; well, an honest confession, I may be a little obsessed with music. I mention how I am a big fan of The Police, and I talked a little about the latest Police CD; by the way, if you have not picked that up, it came out June the 5th, and you need to pick up a copy. It also includes a cool Police poster in with the cds.

I thought it would be neat to share with readers a short clip of their live concert in the UK. They bring so much energy to the stage. I would love to have one chance to play for a band like that. Playing the drums is a stress reliever for me; heck, music in general is a stress reliever. Instead of eating when I am stressed, I either pound my drum kit or put in one of my favorite band, such as The Police. It is a whole lot healthier. I am not saying you have to like my kind of music, or use my stress relievers, but it beats overeating. Sit back for a few seconds and enjoy the video clip.

Who really cares??

Sure, I'd like to have perfectly chisled abs, cut biceps, formed pecs, etc. I must admit that's one of my motivations for going to the gym. When you think about it, who would love to have that. The more I observe people, though, I realize that stuff like that really isn't important. Oh, I definitely believe in being healthy. I think that's extremely important; I'm just talking about having the skupltured body. I know that, on an average, a healthy lifestyle leads to a longer, happier life. I'm not sure how it is all over the world, but in my little corner, just as many "out-of-shape" men end up with just as many beautiful girls as "in-shape" men, but it's not only about attracting the opposite sex. Men and women who are obsessed with physical fitness seem, and I've been around a few, less happy than men and women who are healthy but not obsessed. I mean, when it comes right down to it, who the heck cares that you're not perfect. I know I don't, and I definitely know I'm far from perfect. An incident that happened to me today--which I will not mention--brought that thought to my mind.

Like to travel?

One thing I love to do but do not have the time is travel. With my work schedule, it's very hard to find any time to travel; however, when I retire--in 30 years--that's one of my top priorities.

If you do love to travel, and do it a lot, you need some kind of travel insurance. One company that offers medical travel insurance is Cover My Travels. Cover My Travels offer plans and services such as:
-Up to 92 days cover on Annual Multi Trip policies.
-Competitive level of cover - see schedule of benefits.
-Low Excesses (with the excess waiver option).
-Many hazardous activities included at no extra cost.
-Dedicated 24 hour medical emergency service.
The many hazardous activities at no extra cost is great, because I like bungee jumping and such. If you do travel alot you should really check Cover My Travels out.

Interesting tips...

I'm all of the time reading tips on how to be healthier, how to improve my workout, etc. This morning I was reading some health tips I thought were interesting. I just thought I'd share a few. Check out the one about how to reduce stress. I thought those was interesting.

To Improve Nutrition:

1. Buy whole foods -- whether canned, frozen, or fresh from the farm -- and use them
in place of processed foods whenever possible.
2. Reject foods and drinks made with corn syrup, a calorie-dense, nutritionally
empty sweetener that many believe is worse for the body than sugar, says Katz.
3. Start each dinner with a mixed green salad. Not only will it help reduce your
appetite for more caloric foods, but it also will automatically add veggies to
your meal.

To Improve Physical Fitness:

1. Do a squat every time you pick something up. Instead of bending over in the usual
way, which stresses the lower back, bend your knees and squat. This forces you to
use your leg muscles and will build strength.
2. Every time you stop at a traffic light (or the bus does), tighten your thighs and
butt muscles and release as many times as you can. (Don't worry, no one will see
it!) This will firm leg and buttock muscles, improve blood flow.
3. Whenever you're standing on a line, lift one foot a half-inch off the ground. The
extra stress on your opposite foot, ankle, calf and thigh, plus your buttocks,
will help firm and tone muscles. Switch feet every few minutes.

To Improve Stress Control:

1. Give your partner a hug every day before work.
2. Have a good cry. It can boost your immune system, reduce levels of stress
hormones, eliminate depression, and help you think more clearly.
3. Twice a day, breathe deeply for three to five minutes

To Improve Sleep:

1. Sprinkle just-washed sheets and pillowcases with lavender water. The scent has
been shown in studies to promote relaxation, which can lead to better sleep.
2. Buy a new pillow.
3. Eat a handful of walnuts before bed. You'll be giving yourself a boost of fiber
and essential fatty acids along with the amino acid tryptophan -- a natural sleep-
inducer.

Lowest bid wins!!!

Ok guys. I know everybody likes free gifts and I've found a site that lets you play a game to win prizes: www.bid4prizes.com. It is really simple to play. All you do is find a prize that you want a place a bid on it. You can bid with either your computer or text message with your cell. The person with the lowest unique bid wins. You don't have to pay for the amount bid or for shipping. It is completely free. The prizes range from HDTVs to designer bags to cash prizes.

It is not a sweepstakes or an actual auction. You just try to get the lowest unique bid amount. If someone else bids the same as you then you bid again. The only catch that I've found is you have to view ads in order to bid. But viewing a couple of ads is a small nuisance when you win an HDTV and they ship it to you for free. Check it out.

Yesterday's Workout

Yesterday I didn't actually go to the gym or run. I mention a while back in one of my post that I'm a volunteer firefighter. Yesterday, as we do every second and forth Monday evening, we had a fire meeting. For some reason, the chief felt it necessary to torture us, so we, me and a couple other rather, had to do a search and rescue. Now I have no problem with a rookie have to go through this, but I was not in the mood. I did it though, because the chief is way bigger than I am. Here we go, full gear, in 90 degree heat. Full gear is hot during cold weather, but it's almost unbearable during the summer. These guys pulled a prank. We pulled a charged hose line through every room of that house. We finally made it to the back bathroom, please keep in mind that we were blindfolded. Well, we found the "victim" in the bathroom closet. As we got him to the front room, everyone started laughing. Naturally, we stopped, took of the BA's and hoods, and nearly threw up. The victim was butt naked. I was lucky to be pulling and not on the lower end. Disgusting!!

Shopping

Ok. If you want a great cardio workout, go shopping with my fiance. After the first hour, I'm ready to go, and she's not even warmed up. We can't shop together, because we always end up fighting. It puts me in an awful mood.

I do alot of my shopping online. It's especially great during Christmas, because you don't have to worry about beating the crowd; however, I always try to find good bargains or use coupons. Actually, I've found a great site where I can get coupons to many of my favorite stores. I guess my favorite store, online and "offline", is
Target; however, before I shop online, I always visit keepcash.com and find a coupon for my preferred online store. Then all I have to do is choose my item(s), check out, and, when it ask if I have any coupons, enter the promo codes.

Ever wonder how to become rich, or how the rich stay rich. Well, one of the ways is they save money wherever and however they can. Using coupons is a great way to do that. Keepcash.com offers 1000s of coupons to many different stores. The next time you shop online, remember, check out keepcash.com before buying.

Summer Heat

Summer time in Central Georgia can be dangerous. Yesterday, I just sat on the porch for about 1/2 an hour and sweat like I'd run a marathon. I washed my car and swam with my little cousin. I was completely drained by then evening. It wasn't until we got out of the small pool that I realized I had not had anything to drink since lunch. When I did finally got something to drink, I couldn't stop. I bet I drank 1/2 gallon of tea before I slowed down. It's really dangerous to go that long outside in 100 degree weather without something to drink. I betcha I lost 10lbs though. Just remember, if you're out in this kind of heat, drink plenty of fluids. It's easy to ignore the fact that you need fluids, but it's dangerous. When I was washing the car and swimming, I really didn't think I was thirsty, but this could have been a serious mistake. It could have easily caused a heat stroke. Summer heat is nothing to take lightly. Overheating is a extremely serious health riskMake sure when you're exercising that you're drinking plenty of fluids.

Plastic Surgery

Normally, I am not a big fan of plastic surgery, but if you are going to have it done, for pete's sake have it done right by a professional and make sure you have proper post surgery care. I went out to eat with my best friend last night. We met his aunt and cousin at the restaurant. His cousin has had a California breast augmentation surgery, and they do not look good. They are sagging and just look horribly fake. She should have had a Beverly Hills breast enlargement done at Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery.

Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery is one of the best in the country. It has been featured on Access Hollywood, Univision, KTLA Morning News, Fortune Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times and international media from Britain, France, Japan, and Mexico City. Many plastic surgery facilities treat you like an assembly line. They get you in, peform the surgery, get you out and they are done with you. But Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery treats you different. They start out by putting your needs and desires first, and then provide excellent care and consultation after the surgery. Some of the services they provide are tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation, face lift, brow lift, nose reshaping, chin rejuvenation, and BOTOX. So if you are wanting to have Beverly Hills plastic surgery please have it done right by professionals like those at Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery.

Flexibility

Being a sports fan, I've noticed how many more professional athletes--specifically baseball players--seem to get hurt easier than they use to. The majority of them, however, are so much bigger than they use to be. Listening to one of my favorite pitchers of all time, Greg Maddux, I now completely understand why. It's not rocket science.

The answer he gave is true for everybody who exercises. Maddux explained that, whenever he was coming up as a baseball player, flexibility was a big thing. Today, during the home run era, strenght is the big thing. Players are strong, but less flexible; this is a big reason for more strained muscles and such.

Remember when you're exercising, always do a quick warm-up and stretch. While being strong and cut is cool, if you're constantly hurting it doesn't mean much. Just exercise smart.

Sleeping is Healthy

How much sleep do you get a night? Common sense tells us that not enough sleep leaves us tired and ill the next day. Do you think you can operate efficiently if you're tired? Your metabolism slows down. Sleep affects everything. You definitely don't feel like exercising if you haven't gotten enough rest.

We spend a lot of time in our bedrooms. It just makes sense that our bedrooms should be the most comfortable rooms in our houses. I know mine is. I have it designed just the way I like it. A great site you can visit to view all bedding needs is Terry's Fabrics. This is a great site for embroidered duvet covers and much more.

Sleep is so important. You should be as relaxed and comfortable in your bedroom as possible, and making sure your bedroom is designed the way you want it helps.

League Softball

I'm playing league softball this year for the first in two years. It's been like 2 years since I've played either league or tournament. They guys I'm playing with this year are average to good ballplayers; it's just that none of us have ever played together, and some of us haven't played in a while. This can cause problems with communication, which I'm about to explain in detail. It's great exercise though.

Last night, we were playing a great team; I mean these guys play like every weekend in tournaments plus two times a week. I play left-center field. One of the guys hit a drive between me and the right-center fielder. Both of us, of course, ran full force toward the gap to catch the ball. It was a log run for us both. I wasn't sure if I would make it, so I didn't call for it right away. When I got closer to the ball, I notice that Dave also had a chance, but I heard him holloring, "you got it! you got it!" That's what I heard. What he was yelling, however, was, "you got it? you got it?"

Since I thought he was giving me charge of the ball, I didn't slow up. Since I didn't call for the ball, he didn't slow up. You guessed it. This morning I have a cut lip, extremely sore jaw, bruised and sprain left shoulder, bruised right ring finger, and an incredibly sore butt(go figure). It definitely helps when you've played together for a while.

Outcome of the game...none of your business. lol

Celebrity Gossip

Do you like keeping up with hollywood gossip? I find it kind of interesting some of the time. Who's cheating who? Who's pregnant with who's baby? How much longer does Paris have in jail? Who was not wearing panties last night? Who's getting the kids after the divorce? As long as it does not get run into the ground it is somewhat interesting. There is a new website for everyone to get their fix of celebrity gossip. Celebritygossip.com collects all the latest and hottest gossip on to one page and lets readers comment and vote on the articles. So if you want to find out the latest news on Britney, Paris, Lindsay, or Justin check it out.

Running

I mentioned yesterday how I've gravitated to bicycling instead of running, but I do still run at least once a week--sometimes more. When I was in high school, I ran all of the time. What's funny is I was so comptetative, I would kill myself before I'd let someone pass me on the track. Seriously, my side would be hurting, calfs cramping, but I'd still run. I've since learned that an 8 min or 10 min or 12 min or however long mile is the same distance as a 6 min mile. Just because it may take you a little longer to go the same distance as someone else is no reason to give up exercising. It doesn't mean you're any less of a person. The key to health, and weight-loss, is exercise. It's a proven fact that, on an average, people who exercise live a longer, healthier life. So, just because it may take you 20 minutes to walk a mile doesn't mean you're just wasting your time. Keep it up. Soon the 20 minutes will turn into 18 minutes, then 15 minutes and so on. KEEP IT UP!!!

Burn Notice's Survivor

USA Network's Burn Notice is a new series starting June 28th. In it Michael Westen, a CIA spy, gets blacklisted or posted as unreliable to other spy agencies. He loses his job. His bank accounts are frozen, and he has to hide from the Central Intelligence Agency while trying to figure out who done this to him. It looks like it will be a pretty good television program.

When I saw this advertised I could not help but wonder how I would survive if something like this happened to me. If I was dumped into an unknown city with no money and no one to contact, how would I stay alive? Since I am not all that street smart, I would probably first hit the homeless shelter. I would probably sleep there and use that as my base of operations. Not too many questions asked there. I would probably try to keep moving. Try to get some manual labor jobs like construction or working in the back of some restaurant. Again not too many questions asked with those types of jobs (maybe even get some free food with the restaurant deal). Then, once I had some money saved up I would try to start a new life with a new identity. I know easier said than done. I would probably die or the CIA would get me the first night.

If you want to see how Michael Westen survives this situation check out Burn Notice.

Reno 911! Miami

Reno 911! Miami The Movie is being released on DVD June 19, 2007. This is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a while, of course I grew up watching the Police Academy movies and love stupid humor. It is basically about a bunch of incompetent police that go to Miami for a law enforcement convention but are not allowed in. Through funny and extreme circumstances all the police at the convention end up in quarantine and it is left to our group from Reno to patrol the streets of Miami.

What makes Reno 911! Miami The Movie so funny is the group of over the top in your face characters. Some of the best are Lt. Jim Dangle, Deputy Raineesha Williams, Deputy S. Jones, and Deputy Clementine Johnson. My favorite is the fearless leader Lt. Jim Dangle. His "serious" appearance is enough to make him my favorite. He obviously is wearing a fake stick on mustache. But what makes him completely over the top is his uniform hot pants for which he is aptly named if you know what I mean and if you don't then just watch the movie and it will become quite clear. Click here for a clip. So if you like stupid humor then I suggest you definitely watch Reno 911! Miami The Movie when it comes out on DVD.

Cycling

One of my favorite exercises is riding my bicycle. Not only is it a great cardio workout, but it works nearly every muscle in the body, including all of the leg muscles, your back, arms, shoulders and even abs. I enjoy cycling more than running or walking. I guess it's because I can cover more ground and view more scenary.

I recently stumbled onto a great bicycling site. Wekeepyoucycling.com is an online store where you can anything you want for your bicycle. Anything from Swiss Stop Performance Brake Pads to KEO Carbon Pedals, Wekeepyoucycling.com has it.

Believe me, living in Central Georgia, I know how hot it can get outside. I know how tempting it is to stay inside in the A.C. and watch TV; however, I usually find time to ride my bike at least three times a week. I've bought all kinds of cool stuff from wekeepyoucycling.com that makes my bike rides easier and more enjoyable. If you're a cycling fan, you should definitely visit this store.

Interesting Weekend...

So I hope all you Fathers had a wonderful Father's Day. I took mine out to eat yesterday, and we had a great time. I did have an interesting night last night. Along with everything else I do, I work with my local fire and rescue squad. Last night we got a call to stand by at the small local airport, which is not operational at night, for a possible emergency crash landing either at the airport or on the interstate. We stayed there about 30 minutes before we got word that the pilot was able to make it safely to the airport in a neighboring county. Fortunately, everything was ok. He was having engine failure and was very close to crashing. In my years of working rescue, that would've been a first. Thank God it was avoided.

Online Shopping

I do a lot of shopping online, especially for Christmas, birthdays, and other holidays. What I really like about online shopping is it takes a lot of the hassle out of shopping, and you can use coupon codes at a lot of online stores and get things cheaper than at a traditional bricks and mortar store. I just got my dad a book from Amazon for Father's Day. It literally took me twenty minutes to do all my shopping for this holiday. I know that may seem impersonal but I know what my dad likes and I just did a search for it in Amazon and picked up exactly what I wanted to get him. I used a coupon and got free shipping so it was just as if I had went to the store and got it (actually a little cheaper). I just didn't have to go through the trouble or use the gas to go get it. You can even use Amazon coupons at our Weight Master Amazon Store to buy all your weight loss products.

I bet I've lost five pounds in sweat in the past couple of days. No, I didn't go to a suana unless that's what you call central Georgia. I've been helping my dad tear down an old outbuilding he had in his backyard. It was over thirty years old and was about half rotted down. At least it was cooler this week. The heat index was only around 95 to 97 instead of the 105 to 107 it was last week. Still with 100% humidity you do a lot of sweating. It was good exercise and it made up for the lack of good eating and activities that I have left off due to being extremely busy at work. Anyway, my dad appreciated the help and that reminds me, Happy Father's Day to all you fathers out there.

Pingo Calling Card

If you are like me you hate paying your local phone company for long distance access. They charge all these extra fees (toll accesses, service charges, FCC charges) and then the rate usually is not all the great either. So what I have been doing is using a cheap prepaid phone card for all my long distance calls. Basically, you buy a card at a store it has an access number that you call before you place your call. They usually have a set number of minutes, and when they are used up you throw it away and buy another card. These usually give you a better rate without a lot of the extra fees.

I have just come across a "virtual" calling card called Pingo. It is called virtual because it is not an actual card. You sign up on the internet and put a certain amount of money into your account. Pingo then gives you a toll-free access number and a PIN number to use to make calls. You don't have to keep going back to the store to buy more cards. You just login to your account and put more money in or use the Auto-Recharge feature to automatically put more money on your account when it gets so low. The only fee is a monthly maintenance fee of 98 cents.

Pingo phone cards are a service of iBasis, one of the largest carriers of international VoIP phone calls in the world. Some normal calling cards will not let you place calls to international phones but Pingo does and with great rates too. Most calls within the United States is 1.8 cents a minute and most international calls are around 3 cents depending on what country you call. Pingo's RateWatcher is always looking for ways to lower costs, comparing calling cards, and getting lower rates. You can receive up to four hours of international calls just for signing up. There is also a referral program where you can get $15 for each new customer you refer.

So if you are like me and are using calling cards anyway, you might want to look into signing up for Pingo for all your long distance calling.

Music

How many of you guys listen to music while exercising? I think I'd be safe in saying that the majority of us do. It helps motivate me. I absolutely love music. If I had to choose a favorite type, I'm not sure that I could. I love some country and rock'n'roll. Actually, I'm a drummer and play in a local band sometimes on the weekend.

One of my favorite bands of all time is The Police. Have you guys seen heard the new police cd. It has some of their biggest hits on it. I guess one of my favorite of their hits is Roxanne. One of the reasons, probably, is that I love playing it. Their music is very unique. They are one of those bands that, as soon as you hear one of their songs begin, you know it's The Police. Their energy and styles have inspired and influenced bands so much. I know some of their music and energy has influenced the small, no-name band I'm in. If you haven't already, you really need to pick up the new police cd. I believe that, even if you're not a huge Police fan, or a fan of that type music, you'll still enjoy this cd. I can't think of a bad song on the whole cd. It's just an all around great project, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Win a New York fly-away to see The Police live.

Fun way to exercise...

As you all know, one of the keys to exercising do something you enjoy. For me, I've gotten in to tennis. I'm lucky to have a court right across the street from me. Every chance I get, I practice my serves. Unfortunately it hasn't helped much. Tennis is alot more tiring than it looks. After a while, my right arm basically feels like rubber; however, I enjoy it, and it makes exercising enjoyable. That's what everyone should do; find something enjoyable so you won't dread exercising.

MedicScan

Some of you may have noticed that when you go to the doctor now they may scan your driver's license or health insurance cards into the computer. This blew me away the first time it happened. If you want more details about one of the programs that allows them to do this check out Medicscan. MediScan is pretty straight forward and easy to use. You just insert the card into the scanner, and it automatically scans both sides of the card simultaneously into the computer. The image can then be stored on the computer or on the local area network for later use. This type of technology should greatly improve the medical industry. It should use less paperwork, increase productivity, and cut down on human error. I can see where in the future there won't even be any paper files. It will all be done on computer. So if you want to see more details about how this technology works check out Medicscan.

Stressed Out

Well, I hate to sound like I'm whining to you guys, but I'm a little stressed out. As you might remember from one my previous posts, one of our employees left us for another job last Friday. Well, another employee has now given her resignation. That cuts our office staff in half. It is the busy time of the month on top of all that. We all know what stress does to one's eating habits. I've caught myself snacking when I'm not even really hungry. I've got to do better. I'm going to start trying breathing exercises and just take it one day at a time. Please keep me in mind and I hope things start looking up here at work.

Meade mySky

If you are like me, you don't know the difference between Orion's Belt and the Big Dipper but you enjoy looking up into the night sky. Well, there is this cool new gadget called the meade my sky. The mySky is a hand-held device that helps you to identify celestial objects. It is easy to use. All you do is turn it on, point it at what you want identified, and pull the trigger. It then tells you what you are looking at on a full-color LCD screen. If you have a Meade computerized telescope the mySky can actually control it. You just point and shoot and the telescope moves to the target you choose. The meade my sky uses GPS and other technologies to identify over 30,000 objects in the sky and can give you a tour of the best objects in your sky based on your date, time, and location. It's amazing what they are coming up with. It is really pretty cool so you might want to check out the meade my sky.

Ate Too Much

Today, we had a going away party for one of our employees who is changing jobs. We ordered out for pizza, and I ate entirely too much. I probably had twice my daily caloric intake in one meal. It will be ok though. I'll hit the gym this weekend, and I've got plenty of yard work to do. I'll have to eat healthy over the weekend to make up for it.

Consumer Reports Diet Ratings

The June 2007 issue of Consumer Reports has a really great article that rates several of the latest diet books and plans. The article summizes that the basic rule of weight loss (take in fewer calories than you burn) has not changed but the techniques to achieve this put forth by the different plans and books do differ.

The article reviews seven diet books. Since most of them are new and haven't been put to a clinical trial, the books were rated on an expert-panel questionnaire and analysis of nutritional quality. All the books offered healthful menus but differed in the restrictiveness of the diets and the quality of exercise and nutritional science information. The books reviewed in order of their overall score are The Best Life Diet; Eat, Drink, & Weigh Less; You On A Diet; The Abs Diet; The South Beach Diet; The Sonoma Diet; and Ultra-Metabolism. Please read the article or go to www.ConsumerReports.org to read the detailed analysis of the diet books.

The article also reviews eight diet plans. All the plans reviewed have been tested in clinical trials and published in scientific journals. However, they have generally produced less than 10% weight loss after a year and have had dropout rates of more than 20%. The diet plans were scored on adherence to nutritional guidelines and the results of published clinical studies. The plans reviewed in order of their overall score are Volumetrics, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Slim-Fast, eDiets, The Zone Diet, Ornish Diet, and Atkins Diet. Please read the article or go to www.ConsumerReports.org to read the detailed analysis of the diet plans.

Finally, the article offers some general strategies that are fairly common to all successful diets: choose and limit your fats, eat healthfully but sparingly, cut out simple or refined carbs, and fill up on low-density foods. It also warns that there is no silver bullet to weight loss and quick fixes such as diet pills can actually do more harm than good.

This article is very well written and researched. I suggest everyone read it especially those of us who are trying to lose weight or are considering buying one of these diet books or starting one of the reviewed diet plans.

Sports

I'm a huge sports fan. I love baseball, I love watching basketball, and I could watch and play football all year. I Lebron and the Cavs made it to the NBA Finals, but did you guys notice the number of players and managers thrown out of games this weekend. I was insane. It must have been a full moon or something. First of all, Rasheed Wallace need to be beat with his daddy's belt, because he's nothing but a big baby. The Cub's manager was just acting out of frustration, and Joe Torre about the same. I guess it's a little suprising that my man Bobby Cox wasn't kicked out.

I didn't get in much of a workout this weekend, but I didn't play a couple of games of tennis. I was 1-1. I finally learned how to serve consistantly, hooray. I also danced, and I know you guys don't know or don't care, but that's not good. Have a wonderful Monday.

Rehab Referral Service

I think my boss has finally found a way to find the best drug treatment program for her family member with an addiction. She discovered 1800nodrugs.com, a free drug rehabilitation service. It is a service designed to help drug addicts, alcoholics, chronic relapse victims, and their families find an effective drug rehab and intervention for alcoholism and drug addiction of the highest quality at no cost. They are familiar with the thousands of centers and programs in the nation and can help addicts or family members find the one most appropriate for them. Their website also has a lot of good information about various addictions, ranging from alcoholism to prescription drug abuse to hard drugs such as cocaine and heroine. As you might remember from my previous posts, my boss and the rest of her family were having trouble agreeing on where to send their relative for treatment. She is hopeful that when they all sit down together and call 1-800-NO-DRUGS they will be able to agree on the best place for their loved one. I will try to keep you posted on their results and please continue to remember them in your prayers.

Stop Your Addiction

My boss just found another drug rehab program she likes for her family member suffering from addiction. It is called the First Step 28 Day Drug Rehab program. It is an alternative to normal 12 step programs. The First Step Drug Rehab helps to achieve sobriety in 5 Stages: Detoxification and Withdrawal, Self Control and Communication Exercises, Sauna Cleansing Process, Study Improvement, and Drug Free Remedies for Discomforts. My boss seems to think that since her family member has already been through the normal 12 step program and slipped back into addiction that one of these all natural programs will help him change the way he feels and thinks about drugs and addiction. Like I mentioned in a previous post the only problem is the rest of the family wants to keep him in Georgia and this program is in Michigan. But please keep praying for this man.

Drug Rehab

My boss has a family member that has a problem with drug addiction. He overdosed a few weeks ago and she had to leave work to check on him at the hospital. They had to pump his stomach among other things. Lately she has been looking for a drug treatment center to enroll him in. He has been to one before but he returned to his old problem. My boss was looking on the internet for information on different centers and come across the Stone Hawk website. She was very impressed. The center has one of the highest success rates, 76%, in the country. They use an all natural approach to treat addiction. The program uses vitamins, minerals, exercise, and education to detox and rehabilitate the patients. Stone Hawk is run by people that were once addicts themselves so they understand what the patients are going through. The only drawback for my boss is that the center is located in Michigan and her other family members want to keep him in Georgia. She is still trying to convince them to use Stone Hawk, but I just hope he gets the help that he needs wherever he goes. I'll be praying for him, and I hope you will too.
