Cutting Calories

The truth to weight-loss is to simply eat less calories than you burn. Sounds easy, huh. It is, but you have to have discipline. There are some good recipes out there. Below is a new one that I tried that I really liked. I've posted it so other people can try it also.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon(s) olive oil
2 stalk(s) celery, finely chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove(s) garlic, crushed with press
2 pound(s) lean ground turkey
3/4 cup(s) (from 1 1/2 slices bread) fresh whole wheat bread crumbs
1/3 cup(s) fat-free milk
1 tablespoon(s) Worcestershire sauce
2 large egg whites
1/2 cup(s) ketchup
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) coarsely ground black pepper
1 tablespoon(s) Dijon mustard

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, in oil, cook celery and onion on medium 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Transfer vegetables to large bowl; cool slightly.
2. To bowl with vegetables, add turkey, bread crumbs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, egg whites, 1/4 cup ketchup, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper; mix with hands until well combined but not overmixed. In cup, mix Dijon and remaining 1/4 cup ketchup.
3. In 13" by 9" metal baking pan, shape meat mixture into 9" by 5" loaf. Spread ketchup mixture over top of loaf.
4. Bake meatloaf 55 to 60 minutes or until meat thermometer inserted in center reaches 160 degrees F. (Temperature will rise to 165 degrees F upon standing.)
5. Let meatloaf stand 10 minutes before removing from pan to set juices for easier slicing. Transfer meatloaf to platter and cut into slices to serve.

Weight vs. Economy

What creates the most stress for you: Your weight or the economy?
A Weight Lifted is conducting a survey to find out. I think this will provide some interesting results. I have already participated and urge everyone else to go and take the survey as well. Please go help out the guys at A Weight Lifted.

Barney Frank ; AIG

Sorry, but this post has nothing to do with health. I just want to rant. I'm tired of everyone listening to this idiot Barney Frank crying about the bonuses AIG is giving their executives. The government gave AIG $180,000,000,000.00. The bonuses are about $165,000,000.00. Do the math; that equals less than 1/10 of 1% of what the government gave them. In the big picture that's nothing.

There are many divisions (aircraft leasing to life insurance) to AIG, and some are doing very good. Do a little research. It's in many of these "awful" executive's contracts that with success comes rewards(bonuses). Honestly, I can't say with 100% certainty that AIG isn't rewarding failure; but what I can say with 100% certainty that Barney Frank isn't giving the public the whole picture. I will also say with confidence that most of these people, anti-capitalist, really don't know if these bonuses are legitimately handed out or not.

All I'm saying is that Barney Frank and the rest of these no-brain, anti-capitalist idiots need to give the public the whole picture. The government should have never gotten involved in the private sector, and now that they have, we're rapidly headed for a socialist-type government. I hope we don't go that far.

Things you should do daily...

1. Activity should be a daily occurrence. Walk, run or jump for a minimum total of 20 minutes a day.

2. Protect your skin. Sun block should be applied on face, neck, arms and hands even in the dead of winter. It protects against climatic toxins too. Moisturize skin daily.

3. Eat fruits, vegetables, grains, low-fat dairy products and small amounts of protein. Avoid sweets and other processed foods.

4. Meditate or spend a minimum of five minutes daily in quiet time.

5. Find your spiritual self. Discover what inspires you, raises your level of consciousness, motivates you, and satisfies your soul.

6. Exercise your brain. Read, study, solve problems, and learn new skills. As does the body, the brain atrophies with lack of use.

7. Hug somebody.

Sinus

I had sinus surger Feb. the 6th; I had my septums straightened, the turbinates microwaves and reconstructive to widen my nostrils. It was not as bad as all of the horror stories that I had heard, and it was definitely worth it. I can breath great now. I can sleep and I have no headaces. It's wonderful. If you have a deviated septum or inflammed turbinates then I would recommend the surgery.
