Cinema's Best Revenge Scene

When you feel you've been wronged, do you crave revenge? The dictionary defines revenge as "an act or instance of retaliating in order to get even, an opportunity for getting satisfaction." Even though we know revenge isn’t the best way to solve a problem, payback is something sweeter when we can dream about it, or even better - see it on the big screen. One of the best revenge movies of all time is Man on Fire starring Denzel Washington. Nothing is more dangerous than a man with nothing to lose. If that man also happens to be John Creasy, the former government assassin in Tony Scott's cathartic and extremely satisfying Man on Fire, you don't stand a chance. When the little girl Creasy is hired to protect is kidnapped, he swears to avenge her capture and take out everyone responsible...and we do mean everyone. To get an idea of Creasy's fiery rage, just ask Officer Fuentes what an explosive suppository feels like. In that best revenge scene of all, after knocking him out, Creasy inserts a bomb into the crooked policeman's anus. Then, after getting the desired information out of him he simply detonates the bomb.

A new movie that has a central theme of revenge is Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd (visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site). In this big screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning musical thriller, Johnny Depp stars in the title role as a man unjustly sent to prison who vows revenge. When returning from prison, he reopens his barber shop and becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street killing those who wronged him. If you have never heard of this musical, trust me it is a great story and this should be a good movie. For more information you can also visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace.
