Laser Hair Removal

Do you have body hair in the most annoying places that you would like to get rid of? Are you tired of waxing, shaving, and tweezing? If so, then laser hair removal may be for you. Laser hair removal is an FDA approved method of permanently reducing or eliminating hairs anywhere on the body, including face, underarm, and bikini areas. It works by destroying the hair follicle with high intensity pulses of light. The light from the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle. The hair that is treated is destroyed, permanently removed, and will not grow back.

One of the premier laser hair removal centers in the country is Laser Hair Removal New York. It was founded over ten years ago and now has six locations in the New York area. They all have highly skilled laser treatment practicioners and use cutting-edge technology. You can enjoy full spa treatment in this inviting and luxurious environment. If you are interested in laser hair removal in new york then you should definitely visit their website and schedule a free test patch session at one of their spas.

Don't eat...do something else

So many people eat when they get upset or depressed. Here are just a few alternatives for you to consider

1. Whenever you get upset, call your best friend for validation. Just having someone listen allows you to vent and get some of the angry feelings out instead of me stuffing them back down with food.
2. Go visit your pet. Don't have a dog, cat, bird, fish, horse, cow, any animal? Go to the park and watch the squirrels!
3. Go on line and look for stuff you like, or download some new workout music from iTunes.
4. Pamper yourself like you would a child—tuck yourself into bed and watch your favorite movies!

Well, I hope these help a little.

Obesity

I read this article online and thought it was interesting. As I read this, I found that there were many things that I just didn't know about obesity. I thought that I would put some facts from the article on here. The following information was not written by me. I did copy and paste it, but I forgot to get the url:

1. Child-safety seat manufacturers are starting to make bigger models after a recent study showed that over 250,000 U.S. children age 6 and under are too fat to use them.

2. According to a study by the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University, nearly half the 4,000 people responding to an online survey about obesity said they would give up a year of their life rather than be fat.

3. Between 15 percent and 30 percent also said they would rather walk away from their marriage, give up the possibility of having children, be depressed, or become alcoholic rather than be obese.

4. Five percent and 4 percent, respectively, said they would rather lose a limb or be blind than be overweight.

5. From 1991 to 2000, the average weight of Americans increased by 8.5 pounds.

6. In 2004, the Federal Aviation Administration increased its estimate of the weight of the average male from 170 to 184 pounds.

7. Airlines spent $275 million on 350 million additional gallons of fuel in 2000 to compensate for the additional weight of their passengers. Now we know why the peanuts are no longer free!

8. Stand by your man: More than a decade ago, Manuel Uribe, now weighing 1,200 pounds (the equivalent of five baby elephants) and bedridden for the past five years, was abandoned by his wife because she was frightened by his increasing size.

9. Virgin Atlantic paid Barbara Hewson from Wales the equivalent of US$24,100 in 2002 as compensation after she was squashed by an obese person sitting next to her on a transatlantic flight. Barbara suffered a blood clot in her chest, torn leg muscles, and acute sciatica and was bedridden for a month.

10. Duke University Medical Center found that women and men who lost 10 percent of their total body weight reported a significant improvement in their sexual quality of life.

11. Obesity ranks second among preventable causes of death. Tobacco use is number one.

12. According to the Department of Veteran Affairs, of the 7.5 million veterans who receive their health benefits from the agency, more than 70 percent are overweight and 20 percent have diabetes, which may lead to blindness, amputations, and kidney and heart problems.

13. Two years ago, the Hardee's fast-food chain introduced the 1,420-calorie 107-fat-gram "Monster Thickburger." It contains two 1/3-pound slabs of Angus beef, four strips of bacon, three slices of cheese, and mayonnaise on a buttered sesame-seed bun.

14. Mississippi is the home of the mud pie, Cajun fried pecans, sweet potato crunch, fried shrimp, and catfish. Mississippi is also home to the country's fattest people—more than 25 percent of adult Mississippians are obese. Coincidence?

15. Recent studies have shown that obesity can cause you to lose sleep.

16. On the other hand, a lack of sleep may result in obesity.

17. It's a vicious cycle.

18. Never forget your past: Aborigines and the Pima indians of Arizona developed obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension after transitioning to a Western lifestyle.

19. If the entire morbidly obese population of the U.S. lived in one state, it would be the 12th highest-populated state, with more people than Virginia.

20. A 2003 study reported that 21 percent of all New York City elementary students from all income levels are obese.

Little known facts...

Did you know that apples are more effective at waking you up in the morning than caffeine or that you actually burn more calories when you sleep than when you watch TV? Did you know that laughter can improve your mood, reduce stress, help fight infection, and reduce pain?

Swine Flu

Everyone else is writing on it, so...

As the swine flu spreads across the United States, most cases are mild — federal health officials said Monday that they’re focusing now on trying to project what is likely to occur with the virus in the fall.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is conducting field studies to “strengthen our knowledge about how this new virus is spreading, who is most at risk for illness, how effective prevention measures are, antiviral treatment and so forth,” Dr. Anne Schuchat, the CDC’s interim deputy director for science and public health program, said during an afternoon teleconference.

That's about all I have to say about the Swine Flu. Good luck to you'ens.

Weight Loss Surgery

I am normally not a big fan of surgery for weight loss purposes, but there are instances (the morbidly obese for example) when the health benefits of surgery can outweigh the risks. One of these types of surgery is called lapband or Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding. Basically, during the procedure a band is laparoscpically placed around the upper stomach creating a new smaller stomach pouch. The new smaller pouch can hold less food; therefore, one feels full and satisfied faster while actually eating less and losing weight. So if you are considering surgery in order to lose weight, do not forget to research extensively the benefits and risks of weight loss surgery.

One place to start is with JourneyLite. JourneyLite has an extensive network of facilities that specialize in weight loss surgery. They have much experience with these procedures and all of their lap band surgeons are licensed professionals in the state that they operate in.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day everyone. There are few people in life that are more special than mothers and mothers everywhere should be celebrated.

Say Uncle...

I'm going to be an uncle next week. My sister, who's like a bean pole, is going to deliver little Madelyn next week. This is her first, and she's so exited. She is worried, however, about how she can tighten her baby belly back up. For those with the same concerns, heres an idea.

After your doctor gives you the go-ahead to exercise, try this visualization exercise called "Belly Lacing": Imagine that you have a ribbon woven in and around your ribcage. Close your eyes and imagine pulling on the ends of the ribbon to compress the entire area so that your ribcage narrows. Hold the tightened torso for as long as you comfortably can while you breathe normally. Then relax and repeat.

This type of core-strengthening exercise will help firm up your midsection, but none of these moves will decrease your body fat. Lots of moms (and other people, too) incorrectly believe that stomach moves can reduce inches of fat from their waistline. Since very few calories are burned during these moves, and they only strengthen the musculature, this is just not possible. The way to reduce fat in your belly—and all over—is by moving more, and that means more walking and other types of cardio (swimming, cycling, cardio machines, etc.). How much you should do depends what you have time for, but moving for at least 30 to 60 minutes per day on most days of the week is recommended. If that seems impossible, that's what strollers are good for—getting baby outside so mom can walk!

Cutting Calories

The truth to weight-loss is to simply eat less calories than you burn. Sounds easy, huh. It is, but you have to have discipline. There are some good recipes out there. Below is a new one that I tried that I really liked. I've posted it so other people can try it also.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon(s) olive oil
2 stalk(s) celery, finely chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove(s) garlic, crushed with press
2 pound(s) lean ground turkey
3/4 cup(s) (from 1 1/2 slices bread) fresh whole wheat bread crumbs
1/3 cup(s) fat-free milk
1 tablespoon(s) Worcestershire sauce
2 large egg whites
1/2 cup(s) ketchup
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) coarsely ground black pepper
1 tablespoon(s) Dijon mustard

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, in oil, cook celery and onion on medium 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Transfer vegetables to large bowl; cool slightly.
2. To bowl with vegetables, add turkey, bread crumbs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, egg whites, 1/4 cup ketchup, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper; mix with hands until well combined but not overmixed. In cup, mix Dijon and remaining 1/4 cup ketchup.
3. In 13" by 9" metal baking pan, shape meat mixture into 9" by 5" loaf. Spread ketchup mixture over top of loaf.
4. Bake meatloaf 55 to 60 minutes or until meat thermometer inserted in center reaches 160 degrees F. (Temperature will rise to 165 degrees F upon standing.)
5. Let meatloaf stand 10 minutes before removing from pan to set juices for easier slicing. Transfer meatloaf to platter and cut into slices to serve.
