A.I.

Ok; tonights the first night of the new season of American Idol. I am ready. I love the show. I know it's getting old, but I love music, along with exercising. Good luck to the contestants.

Who likes to vacuum??...

I do not. In fact, there is not many house chores that I do enjoy; however, vacuuming with a Dyson is not so bad. Dyson, in my personal opinion, is by far the best cleaning system on the market. It is so easy to use the Dyson vacuum cleaner. Not only is easy to use, it is also very healthy. There are several different models from the light weight Slim to the Cyclone. Unlike most vacuums, the Dyson also helps purify the air. The Dyson is good for pet owners, allergy sufferers and it's good for all kinds of floors. They're definitely worth checking into.

How to Burn Fat and Drop Pounds

- Choose a weight that is heavy enough to challenge your target muscles, but not so heavy that your joints feel strained. Since you will be moving quickly through the moves, choose a slightly lighter weight than usual. Start with dumbbells that are at least 3-5 pounds and gradually work up to using six to 15 pounds, depending on the exercise.
- Do not use weights during the cardio bursts. If needed, modify the high-impact movements, such as the jacks, and make them lower impact by performing the same movement without jumping. Move for one minute (or less if you are just starting) and try not to pause between exercises. Of course, if you feel tired or out of breath, slow down.
- Start by performing one complete circuit: Do each cardio burst, followed by a strength move, then move on to the next set. Do each cardio burst for one minute, and perform 15 repetitions of each exercise,. Move quickly when performing each strength move, but do not swing the weights. If you can swing them, your weight is too light. Once you’ve cycled through all six exercises, repeat the circuit for a total of two to four cycles.
-Do this workout two to three times a week with a rest day in between.
Modify this workout to match your fitness level. Follow the recommended moves, or adapt them as needed by clicking on a similar exercise that is easier or more challenging.

What you need: Weights, a step or bench, and good pair of sneakers to provide support during the cardio bursts.

Vision Bedding

How much time do you spend in the bedroom? I try to get seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Now, I do not always get that much, especially during bowl week, but it is healthy to get at least close to that. Now, as I am sure you can tell, I am a guy, so interior designing is not on my list of top priorities, but I do like my house neat and clean. Just like most people, I am more relaxed in an environment that I am comfortable with and enjoy.

I recently saw this site, Custom Bedding, that's very cool. This site uses the most up to date technology to turn your digital pictures into blankets, throws, and bedspreads. Custom Bedding is their specialty. You can save and pass down your memories on a blanket. That is pretty cool, uh? I think so. I just wish I had discovered this site before Christmas.

Now I know you're thinking, "what does this have to do with health?" Anything you can do to help relax yourself or to be happier is healthy. That is a fact. Just check out the site.

Excuses...

I hear excuses all the time as to why people don't exercise; however, there should be no excuse except for extreme situations. Here are a couple of reasons I heard earlier this week and reasons why they are poor excuses.

Excuse: I've tried to exercise in the past and failed
Don't throw in the towel! You can't see it when you lower your cholesterol or reduce your risk of diabetes, but that doesn't mean you aren't doing yourself a great favor. Re-evaluate what went wrong, and learn from your mistakes.
Pace yourself. Start small and build up to more intense workouts later, when your body is ready.
Set realistic goals. Don't promise yourself you're going to work out for an hour every day, and then get down on yourself when you fall short. Stick with goals you can more easily achieve, such as exercising 20 minutes a day, three days a week for the first month.
Remember why you're exercising. Use your personal fitness goals as motivation — and reward yourself as you meet your goals.

Excuse: I can't afford to buy fancy exercise equipment or join a health club
You don't need a membership at an elite gym to get a great workout. Consider common-sense alternatives.
Do strengthening exercises at home. Use inexpensive resistance bands — lengths of elastic tubing available in varying strengths — in place of weights. Lift plastic milk jugs partially filled with water or sand. Do push-ups or squats using your body weight.
Queue up an exercise video. Try videos on dance aerobics, cardio-kickboxing, yoga or tai chi. For variety, trade exercise videos with a friend or check out the options at your local library or video rental store.
Start a walking group. Round up friends, neighbors or co-workers for regular group walks. Plan routes through your neighborhood or near your workplace, along local parks and trails, or in a nearby shopping mall.
Take the stairs. Skip the elevator when you can. Better yet, make climbing stairs a workout in itself.
Try your community center. Exercise classes offered at your community center or recreation department or through your local community education group might fit your budget better than an annual gym membership.

Instead, we are taught to think things through and be logical. These mental tools are important, but they were never intended to be used instead of intuition. LED Lights

Now that Christmas is over many of us are taking down the lights that we spent hours hanging up. However, just because Christmas is over that does not mean that you have to put those lights up and not use them again until next Christmas. There are countless applications for stringed holiday lights. You can use them to brighten up your landscape, as accent lighting on your home or for your business, or as decorative lighting for other occasions such as parties, weddings, or other holidays. If you have LED lights, you can continue to use them throughout the year at little cost. The cost to operate 2000 LED Christmas lights for 8 hours a day for 365 days is about $50. The durable lights are nearly indestructible and will last for more than 50,000 hours. So do not just pack those lights up until next Christmas. Find new and unique ways to use them throughout the year.

Interesting...

One of my favorite commercials on TV is the one where Peyton Manning gives the advise for men 25 yrs and up to wear bigger shirts. I know Manning does way too many commercials, but that one is really funny to me. That has nothing to do with this post by the way.

I just read an article on MSN and I thought it was pretty interesting. Below is basically what it says:

Guidelines to making the best decisions in the gym.

-Train on your feet. Sitting is an unnatural body position for strenuous work. Once you sit, you lose your body's natural anchor: the muscles of the back, butt, abdominal core, and legs. Ground-based training immediately puts an end to a host of outdated stationary-machine and free-weight lifts, including the bench press, military press, incline press, and chest press, and leg extensions, leg presses, leg curls, preacher curls, and so on. You'll find that staying on your feet keeps your heart rate up, requires you to think creatively, and keeps your workout moving along efficiently. You're either exercising or walking it off. That keeps your awareness up and boredom down.

-Vary your pace. Stationary running or cycling can become a semiconscious plod, anesthetized by television. Structuring tempo builds aerobic capacity, burns calories more efficiently, builds strength, and helps develop the ability to absorb force while in motion. Tempo changes do not have to be intense, only clearly drawn, whether you alternate 30-second efforts or do an "inverted pyramid" of descending durations of effort. Mentally, varying your tempo makes the time go by faster as well. With alternating durations of effort, you are pushing, recovering, or holding steady, and never simply tuning out.

-Train movements, not muscles. The five basic movements to develop in any exercise session are limited to different forms of stepping, pushing, pulling, squatting, and rotating. There's no need to do one exercise for your biceps, another for your shoulders, and another for your chest. Two good pushing drills take care of them all. Instead of targeting the upper back and then the lower back, simply pull (in the form of pull-ups or incline pull-ups) and bridge (holding your torso stiff to build strength in your back). For the lower body, lunge, step-down, and squat drills are all it takes, and body weight alone is usually more than enough load.

-Train for the four elements: stopping, slowing, descending/ascending, and catching. Many gyms don't value the reduction of force — the catching of a ball, landing from a step-down, or changing direction — because there's no easy way to measure it. Yet stopping, descending, and absorbing momentum are far more valuable for joint safety than any isolated strength-building exercise. This means not only throwing a medicine ball but also catching each return throw or rebound. It means stepping downward on one leg, running downhill, developing footwork agility, and squatting or lunging with control.

-Prepare to use the distant corners of your gym. Since gyms are not often set up for clients who move their bodies across space or in multiple directions, who toss weighted balls, or who need to do drills that require stopping and starting quickly, a more athletically based use of your health club will often require taking over its less populated areas. Empty basketball courts, aerobics classrooms, and other open areas are necessary in order to train dynamically indoors, so get used to feeling like a pioneer on the prairie.

Back to Reality

Well, after a week and a half off for Christmas and a trip to Orlando, FL, it's now time for me to get back to normal life. I am ready to start my normal, daily routine again; I do dread getting back to the exercise and weights. Not because I don't want to workout, but because I know I'll be hurting for the next couple of day. I think the best way to get back into it is to start out light. Ok here we gooo...

Orlando

So, I'm, right now, at the computer lab, right outside of the gym, in Kissimmee, Fl. I'm tired, but not like yesterday. Yesterday, we went to 3 Disney Parks. We walked soo many miles, but it was fun. I've just finished working out, and now, I'm heading back to the room to shower and watch the first bowl game of the bowl season...yippee.

BoFlex

I've always been a fan of free weights, and I still am. Recently, however, because of a different work situation, I've been unable to go to the gym. I'm a volunteer firefighter, and a couple of the local stations put some money together and bought a couple of nautilus machines and a BoFlex. While I still love free weights, I've also become a big fan of the Boflex. It actually works really good. I get a great burn. The only bad thing about it is, with the one that we bought, there's no way to really do bench presses. It does a great job until I can get back to my normal routine.

Cinema's Best Revenge Scene

When you feel you've been wronged, do you crave revenge? The dictionary defines revenge as "an act or instance of retaliating in order to get even, an opportunity for getting satisfaction." Even though we know revenge isn’t the best way to solve a problem, payback is something sweeter when we can dream about it, or even better - see it on the big screen. One of the best revenge movies of all time is Man on Fire starring Denzel Washington. Nothing is more dangerous than a man with nothing to lose. If that man also happens to be John Creasy, the former government assassin in Tony Scott's cathartic and extremely satisfying Man on Fire, you don't stand a chance. When the little girl Creasy is hired to protect is kidnapped, he swears to avenge her capture and take out everyone responsible...and we do mean everyone. To get an idea of Creasy's fiery rage, just ask Officer Fuentes what an explosive suppository feels like. In that best revenge scene of all, after knocking him out, Creasy inserts a bomb into the crooked policeman's anus. Then, after getting the desired information out of him he simply detonates the bomb.

A new movie that has a central theme of revenge is Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd (visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site). In this big screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning musical thriller, Johnny Depp stars in the title role as a man unjustly sent to prison who vows revenge. When returning from prison, he reopens his barber shop and becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street killing those who wronged him. If you have never heard of this musical, trust me it is a great story and this should be a good movie. For more information you can also visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace.
